How to remove metadata from word documents

Remove metadata from word document

Remove metadata from word document is nowdays when almost every computer user has installed Microsoft office for their daily personal or business use very important matter. So, have you ever wondered what was used to save text before Microsoft word? Before Microsoft there was very little scope for personal computers and software’s related to those computers. But the first word processing software that is a commercial flick in market is “WORDSTAR” released by “Micropro International” In 1979. WordStar is also bestselling word processing software in early eighties. In 1983 October 25, Microsoft released their version of word processing software named as Multi Tool Word for Xenix systems. The first word processor for windows was released in 1989 for WindowsNT and later on different types of versions are released with more customizing options.

Metadata is a dedicated set of data stored for the sole purpose of giving information about other data. To explain it briefly we can say it as an Index to a big set of books in a library. To know more about metadata and its uses refer “How to remove metadata in JPEG files”. For example, let’s say we need to open a website regarding translation. So, if website creates a file that shows what languages it can translate, tools used to create them, time taken to translate will automatically increases the user experience. Metadata can mainly be divided into two categories depending on their characteristics.

Descriptive metadata:
It mainly deals with the identification parts of the file such as author name, keyword, title and abstract.

Structural metadata:
It deals with the information like whom and how the resource is created, how it can be accessed, format of file, copyright infringements etc.

Removing metadata in word documents is always a good practice for saving private information. This metadata will store information while you are using word document such as author names, time of usage on the document, the document creation date, previous version of the document, number of revisions, deleted comments, ink annotations, headers, footers, document properties, settings, comments made, custom xml data, hidden text etc. Storing of such data in word is called “Word metadata”. So, you’ll have to remove this information before publishing to save ourselves from the embarrassing moment of our peers finding out the private information. So, I am writing this article on “How to view metadata in word”, How to remove metadata from word 2007 and How to remove metadata from word 2010.

Metadata in word may store your sensitive information without your knowledge some times and publishing this document may leads to publicity of sensitive data. This is the photo of our article and I have a bad quality of writing To-Do tasks for the day on whatever may be the file I am dealing with and I hide this later. But, metadata will store our hidden items too, as document shown in figure.
